This 60-acre Kennebec Land Trust preserve is a forested walk that brings you down the side of a hill. Along your route, you’ll pass a cottage and two-bay shed, both falling down, with moss growing on their roofs. Further down the trail, you’ll see two manmade ponds. One of these is more of a puddle these days. I found the forest to be beautiful, especially in the northwest corner of the preserve.
If you do the full perimeter loop, it’s about 1.3 miles, but you can choose a shorter option. Remember that you’ll be hiking uphill on the return!
Directions: From Readfield, take Rt 41 North for 11 miles, then turn right onto Kimball Pond Road and follow for 2.6 miles. Turn left onto Anderson Road. The trailhead will be just about 0.25 miles on the left, where an old track leads into the woods. It’s at the top of a hill, just after the meadow, and it might be blocked with a chain. Walk 50 feet or so down the track and you’ll see the trailhead kiosk. Parking is along the side of the road — there is plenty of room to scoot over.
