Reeds Brook Trails

Hampden, Penobscot County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: ~2 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Reeds Brook, grassy trails

Wide, swooping trails have been carved into low-lying land near the school, around Reeds Brook. They’re popular (and groomed) ski trails in the winter, and I can see why. It’s a nice, easy course.

In springtime, the land can get quite wet, and one of the trails wasn’t cut back (#11), so I didn’t include it on my map. Otherwise, the town invites the public to visit here year-round.

The trail system is a collaboration among community volunteers, members of the Penobscot Valley Ski Club, Troop 41 Boy Scouts, and the school system, according to Maine Trail Finder.

Directions: Maine Trail Finder suggests one parks just west of Reeds Brook Middle School. I’ve found that in general it’s safest to park at school trails after hours or on weekends, to ensure you find a parking space or aren’t stealing one from a teacher!
