Surry Forest

Surry, Hancock County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 2,114 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 9 miles of logging roads
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: harvested forest, views of Blue Hill

The Blue Hill Heritage Trust has held a road race here, a good spot for it since there is a 3-mile loop on a wide logging road that loops around the center of this large protected parcel. When I visited in the winter, a few people had also skied here, also a good activity for this spot! The trails are wide, fairly level and mostly easy.

In the spring of 2025, the Blue Hill Heritage Trust planted almost 2,000 trees, to help the land recover from a heavy harvest in 2016.

Directions: This property is located off the Toddy Pond Road, up Chestnut Lane. The trail head and parking area are 3 miles from Surry Village on your left, or 6.3 mi from Route 1 in Orland on your right.
