Thomas College, Waterville

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: N/A
  • Trail Mileage: .8 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Kennebec River, Messalonskee Stream

This is more like a destination than a walk. At one point the trail may have been taken care of, but it seemed (in the winter of 2018) to be a bit neglected, with trash strewn about. There is one great place to sit and take in the Kennebec River, on a bench inscribed with the word “serenity.” At points there are little tags telling you where to go but in general the walk is not terribly well marked.

You can cross the stream and connect to the Merritt Nature trail, but I didn’t attempt this!

KM Trails is a great source for walkers.

Directions: Thomas College is off Route 104 (West River Road). The best way to find the trailhead kiosk is to park close to the corners of the tennis courts and playing fields, behind the library, and walk along the edge of the field to the trail entrance. The kiosk is set off at the far end of the field.
