To take a break from the local little league game, you can do a peaceful, easy walk in the woods and along a pretty brook. The trail system is set up to allow hikers to do one large loop of about 2 miles, or one or more shorter loops.
The trailhead and good-sized parking area is next to the town’s public works building. From here, you follow a well-used snowmobile trail, which forms the southern edge of the trail system. This track joins two loops: the Town Forest Trail and Red Brook Trail. The trails are blazed, easy to follow, and mostly flat.
Note: When the Red Brook Trail crosses the power lines, look for blue blazes almost directly across the corridor to reconnect with the path. Then enjoy the next section along the brook. Two rustic wooden benches have been set up to enjoy this spot. When the trail loops back to the power lines, turn right to walk along the power lines for a short distance to reconnect with the main path.
Directions: The Vassalboro Town Forest Trail is accessed 0.4 miles from Route 32 off the Bog Road in the parking lot next to the Town Garage.
