Great South Bay

Lubec, Washington County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: ~2.5 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Sights: South Bay, pocket cove, meadow

Another beautiful Cobscook Shores park, Great Souh Bay offers a little cove with views of Guvspuny Island island and the bay, and a longish trail that hugs the coastline.

From the parking area, you’ll begin your walk along the edge of fields before entering the shadowy forest. At the first intersection you can go right to take a shorter path (~0.7 one way from the parking area). It brings you down some steps to a pocket cove. Swimming might be possible if you’re brave! If you take a left at the intersection, the path follows the bay for just under 2 miles before ending at the end of an inlet.

Expect a few moderate ups and downs.

Directions: From Route 189, turn onto North Lubec Road. Go about half a mile to the dirt road entry to the preserve, on the left.
