McPhetres and Davis Forests, and Manter Wood, Veazie

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: ~33 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 2 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Sights: forest, old pines

Three protected areas come together on this roughly 33-acre tract known as the Veazie Town Forest. The two-mile trail system here runs from Davis Drive to State Street and over to Fairview Cemetery.

While the trails are well blazed and there are maps posted at some intersections, the trail system was a bit difficult to walk in late December, 2023, following some major storms. There were a lot of blowdowns, mostly. Otherwise, this is a peaceful place to walk in the woods. The largest tree (which I assume makes it the oldest, or one of the oldest trees) in Veazie is located in Manter Wood.

Directions: While you can park on State Street for the Manter Woods entrance, you’ll have to pull over to the side of the road. There are about three parking places off Davis Drive, and it you can also park at the trailhead at Fairview Cemetery. Walk behind the white fence and look for the trail to the right.
