Along this Portland Trails path, you’ll find a quiet, pretty place to walk where you are unlikely to meet many other walkers. The trail follows the river for about an easy 1.4 miles, stretching from Halidon Road to East Bridge Street. In the springtime, I have seen many warblers and other migrating birds here!
You can access the trail from four trailheads. The two places to pick up the trail where you don’t have to park roadside are at the start and end, in a little lot off East Bridge Street close to the junction with Route 302, and at a little lot at the end of Halidon Road.
Just a little note: If you start from Puritan Drive, you’ll find the trailhead next to the power line corridor. It seems as if you are crossing someone’s yard to access the trail! But the right-of-way is marked with a Portland Trails post. Be sure to follow this access trail when it crosses the power line, about a third of the way down, to avoid the old trail, which can be wet and grassy.
Directions: Parking is available on East Bridge Street at the trailhead just west of Route 302. You can also park at a little parking area at the end of Halidon Road, on the side of Puritan Drive, or at the East Bridge Street ball field.
