This is a small Coastal Mountains Land Trust preserve abutting Maces Pond. The trail is wooded, and there are two spurs to the water’s edge. Both look like they might make decent places from which to splash into the pond. The one nearest the pullover is used as a boat launch.
The preserve is off a busy road, so take care pulling in and out of the parking area. While this preserve is charming, you’re never too far from the noise of traffic. Perhaps an early morning visit is best, which looks like when these beautiful photos were taken by Sean Carnell.
I recommend you do the loop clockwise, so you finish by walking along the pond. While the trail is overall easy, there’s a descent when the trail curves down the pond.
Directions: From Camden, take Route 1 south, then turn right onto Route 90. After 2.5 miles, turn left onto Route 17. Go 1.4 miles, and you’ll see a large paved pullover. The trailhead kiosk is set off a bit from the road so is hard to see. The landmark you should look for is the pullover.
