Set amid a little neighborhood, this Coastal Mountains Land Trust trail weaves through forest and along a stream, making a couple of short loops, before coming out to a delightful stone patio overlooking a little harbor. Someone has built a stone throne here, so you can watch the comings and goings of Rockport Harbor from your chilly or sun-warmed perch.
From the stone patio, if you continue along the trail a bit farther south, you’ll see an unmarked spur to another great view from a ledge.
(The lime kiln chimney cap indicated on the map is a big piece of rusting metal, looking like a bit like it broke off of Sputnik 1 years ago and landed in the middle of the woods.)
Directions: From Camden, take Route 1 south, turning left onto Pascal Avenue. Turn right onto School Street, then turn right onto Spruce Street. About 100 yards up Spruce Street is the preserve parking along the edge of the street, marked with a preserve sign. There’s room for four or five cars.
