Simpson Woods

Freeport, Cumberland County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: +45 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~2 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: stream, stone walls, forest

Along this peaceful forested walk, you will see old stone walls, mature trees, and a curving stream with mossy banks. Elizabeth Simpson donated the land, where she lived her whole life, after she died in 2019. If you do both loops, the total mileage is about 2 miles.

The first loop is a flat ~0.75 miles, with a couple of stream crossings. You can extend your walk by ~1 mile if you continue along the blue loop, which will provide more pretty stream sightings (there’s even a small, cute waterfall!). Both loops are mostly easy.

Directions: The small parking lot four about four cars is on the south side of Route 1, 2.8 miles north of Mallett Drive in Freeport and about 672 feet south of Old Brunswick Road. It’s marked with a hiker sign.
