The Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine maintains more than two miles of lightly used trails in the forest and small wetland area behind its trout fishing ponds and outdoor range.
You should park outside the gate even if it’s open, just to avoid an unfortunate closure! After you walk 500 feet or so down the drive, you’ll see the trailhead kiosk on your left, to the left of the youth fishing pond.
The trails are marked with small white blocks and faded painted blazes, as well as a few signs. At three different points, the trails cross power lines. Head directly across at these intersections to continue on the footpaths.
Directions: The address is 2273 North Belfast Ave (Route 3), about 0.3 miles west of the intersection with Church Hill Road, where the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine’s office is located. There is a large parking area where you should park. Walk in past the gate and look for the trailhead kiosk to the left of the first trout pond.
