QUICK TRAIL FACTS
- Preserve Size: Not sure
- Trail Mileage: ~4 miles

- Difficulty: easy to moderate
- Sights: Scotty Brook
The four miles of single-track bicycling trails are well maintained and well built, created by Inland Woods + Trails. They’re astonishingly smooth with just a few rocks here and there, so must be very appealing to bikers.
Although these trails are designed for bicyclists, walkers are allowed to use them. Just be sure to yield to bicyclists as they come tearing around corners. They will usually shout in warning!
The nicest section by far on the mix of town-owned and privately owned parcels here is the shady, forested section of Bull Pine Trail that follows the stone-strewn Scotty Brook. Other trails — like Fawntastic and part of Rope Tow, are more exposed, in areas that have been logged. But Rope Tow also has some exposed bedrock, with one relatively large outcrop overlooking the forest. Take Off Trail is quite pleasant, as it cuts through forest along the side of a steep hill.
I only walked the single track paths as the ATV double track trails weren’t as appealing; they tend to be more exposed and eroded.
Directions: Park in the large lot to the north of the Mountain Valley High School complex. You’ll see a small trail sign at the corner of the lot. Follow the dirt track behind the school and look for the trail entrance in the woods to your right. About 500 feet in, you’ll see the trail kiosk with a map.
