- Pisgah Hill Preserve — A 0.6-mile jaunt up a small hill, to sunny ledges.
- Intervale Preserve — More a birder’s spot than a hiker’s spot. A half-mile loop through woods to look-outs over wetlands. Boat access to the Royal River.
- Talking Brook Public Land (Big Falls) — The main attraction at this 200-acre state forest is Big Falls, a pretty waterfall and pool on Meadow Brook, reachable via a ~1.5-mile loop. But you can walk for several more miles in the forest around the other Royal River tributary here, Talking Brook.
- River Elf Trail — A 2-mile trail through fields, mature forest, and down to the shallow Royal River is really enjoyable and mostly easy.
