- Moxie Mountain — A really splendid mountain, under 3,000 feet. The south trail from Heald Pond Road is about 1.6 miles to the top. There is another slightly longer western trailhead closer to Deer Bog that is less steep. The trailheads are remote, requiring several miles of driving logging roads.
- Pleasant Pond Mountain — This lovely mountain, also under 3,000 feet, can be accessed from the east (shorter and steeper) or the west (longer, more gradual and easy.) It’s part of the Appalachian Trail.
- Pierce Pond Stream Falls and Gorge — A relatively flat 3.5-mile section of the Appalachian Trail that follows the stream, which has lovely cascading falls and a gorge. The trail connects Pierce Pond with the Kennebec River.
- Kennebec River Loop Trail — A pleasant path follows the riverbank and a high esker in a 1-mile loop.
