The Roaring Spout

St. George, Knox County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 2 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.9 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Atlantic Ocean, islands

The short forested trail to a stunning spot by the ocean is reachable only by foot or bicycle — visitors are discouraged from driving down the private Roaring Spout Road. I parked off the side of Harts Neck Road, where there wasn’t much of a pullover, but enough of one to park safely.

The walk down Roaring Spout Road is about 0.7 miles. When the road curves, you’ll see the a footpath on your left, shortly after a driveway to a big house. There is a small land trust tacked onto a tree. In about 0.1 mile down the path, you’ll come to the view. The roaring spout itself is most dramatic during high tide and choppy seas.

Directions:
The Roaring Spout is located on Roaring Spout Road, which is off of Harts Neck Road in Tenants Harbor. The following directions were supplied by a site visitor: Go “down Roaring Spout road and stop at the intersection” with Hellyer Road. Right there at the y-section is a small sign for the Roaring Spout trail.”
