Carrying Place Cove

Among the many highlights at this Cobscook Shore preserve is walking out on a point of flaky schist to look out over the blue-green waters and seaweed-laced shores of the tidal Carrying Place Cove.

Another highlight is heading to the headland jutting out into Whiting Bay, where the trail brings you to the rocky outcrop with a view of the watery landscape around you.

A third and fourth highlight are two sets of stone stairs next to the ocean that took time and skill to build; they must be ascended and descended to be appreciated!

Beyond these things, there are lots of other spots to admire the beauty here on the relatively easy trails. Expect minor ups and downs.

The first big loop is about 1.2 miles, and the smaller second loop is about 0.5 miles. The third, and farthest, loop is the smallest, just 0.2 miles.

Directions: From Route 189 turn onto Chapel Hill Road, at the cemetery. Go 1.5 miles, the road will change to Timber Cove Road. Turn left onto Moore Road, and go just under 1 mile to the parking area and trailhead on the right. The road will turn to dirt.
