In the summer of 2026, this little trail system got a makeover — with a new ramp at the Sullivan Street entrance leading to a short stretch of boardwalk and a seating area. When I visited, the project was in process and looked good!
Beyond the boardwalk, you can stroll through the town forest to the marshy area of shallow Penny Pond and to a few small loops at the southern end of the forest. Another entrance off Dobson Road has a sign explaining the trail is dedicated to the men and women of Berwick “who answered the call to defend their country.”
From Sullivan Street to Dobson Road, it’s about 0.5 miles.The terrain is mostly flat and easy. The split logs in a wet, ferny area were decomposing in a picturesque way! I took a photo.
Directions: There are two entrances to the trail, one from Sullivan Street and the other from Dobson Road. Parking is at the library at the corner of Sullivan Street and Old Pine Hill Road, since there is not much room along the road shoulders.
