This 1,500-acre, privately owned forest in Industry is open for public use along multi-use gravel roads. Allowed uses on the roads change throughout the year, but they are always open to walking, biking, horseback riding, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. ATVs are allowed in the summer and passenger vehicles are allowed during hunting season in the fall. Spring is the best time to walk if you don’t want to encounter any motorized vehicles. Signage at each entrance provides a comprehensive list of allowed uses in season.
The roads provide relatively easy walking, although there are a few larger hills. There are a variety of scenic streams and mountain views that you will encounter along the way. Small side trails (most are not shown on this map) provide ample opportunities for further exploring, and the vast property also has areas conducive to off-trail travel, especially along Mitchell Brook. Be sure to respect this private property which is generously available for public use.
From the east gate to thr north gate, it’s about 4.3 miles. From the south gate to the north gate, it’s 2.5 miles.
Directions: There are three gated entrances to the property. The north and south gates are only accessible seasonally and require good clearance to reach. Most users will find that the east gate is the best starting point. The east gate is located on Rand Road, 0.8 mile north of the village of West Mills and directly across from Nutting Road. Roadside parking is available. Be sure not to block either road or the gate.
