Protected by the town of St. George and Georges River Land Trust, this enchanting 83-acre preserve has trails through forests of fir, spruce, and pine, across streams, and by marshes. There are open ledgy areas, too, including where Moose Trail ends, making a good destination for walkers.
The trail system is well marked with blue blazes and has maps with trails distances at intersections. Close to the start of the trail, the path crosses Meadow Brook Stream along a few large stone blocks. This is a particularly pretty spot on the marsh with a bench.
There is very limited parking at a two-car lot at the side of Old Woods Road. From this point, visitors must walk about 0.15 miles to the end of the dead-end road, where the trail begins. The trailhead kiosk is set a bit farther along the trail.
Directions: From Port Clyde Road (Route 131) turn onto the unpaved Old Woods Road. Go about 0.15 miles to the two-vehicle parking area on the left. It’s marked with signs for the preserve. Note that there is no parking allowed anywhere else on the road and if the lot is full, you’re asked to return another time. From the parking area, it’s another 0.15 miles along the Old Woods Road to the road’s end and the start of the trail.
