Higgins Mountain, Georgetown

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: 1.1-mile loop
  • Pets: no
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Pitch pine, blueberries, rare broom crowberry

This is more like a bump than a mountain, but I’ll take any elevation in these parts! The Higgins Mountain trail is maintained by the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust, and after a short uphill walk, offers views from bedrock outcrops on the mountain. You can even see the sea in the distance. The highest elevation here is 259 feet. In 2018, the land trust extended the trail, adding a loop at the top of the hill.

Directions: The trailhead is off Route 127, a little less than 1,000 feet from the intersection of Route 127 with Cunningham Lane, and about 500 feet from Higgins Farm Road.
