Alewive Woods Preserve, Kennebunk

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 625 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~4 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Alewife Pond

From the trailhead, you can reach a pretty lookout by the 45-acre pond in about 1.2 miles, along trails that are mostly wide, flat, and easy. Some of the reroutes around wet sections get a little less easy, as are the shorter loop trails closer to the pond and to Sucker Brook. The red trail brings you to the brook and a small bench perched alongside it. The purple trail is a bit hilly as it follows the pond’s edge.

Additionally, there is a white-blazed trail that departs from the blue-blazed trail. This path is easy to walk for about 0.6 miles but then deteriorates. According to Strava, the trail links up to the power lines and Jeffrey’s Way.

The Kennebunk Land Trust calls this 625-acre preserve its “crown jewel,” and the trails through the scrub pine are lovely to walk.

Directions: The preserve trailhead is off Cole Road, 3.5 miles west of Interstate 95.
