Babson Creek Preserve, Mount Desert Island (Somesville)

The Maine Coast Heritage Trust has protected several properties on Mount Desert Island outside of the park boundaries. They all provide a chance to get away from the summertime crowds and see more of the island’s nature.

Babson Creek Preserve in Somesville offers a half-mile stroll through meadows on mowed path. You can also explore the banks of a tidal brook. Bring your binoculars!

Directions: The trailhead kiosk is at the edge of the parking lot for Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Mt. Desert Island offices. From the junction of Routes 3, 198, and 102 in Somesville, follow Route 102 north 0.2 mile to the preserve entrance on the right.
