- Trail Mileage: ~0.6 miles
- Pets: yes
- Difficulty: moderate
- Sights: views from a fire tower
The 0.6-mile hike (round trip) to the Chase tower follows an eroded jeep track that is short and moderately easy. The tower is set within an area of ledge and is in pretty good shape, minus a few planks. Even those scared of heights might find climbing the staircase to views above the tree canopy not too terrifying. Unfortunately, on the day I visited, heavy cloud coverage obscured the views.
There’s plenty of space to park at the base of the hill, and the unpaved access road, Chase Hill Road, was in excellent condition when I visited.
Directions: From Lancaster Road in Canaan, turn onto Chase Hill Road, which is unpaved. Follow it for 0.9 miles until you reach an eroded road on your left. Turn in here and park off to the side.
