Devil’s Back Trail, Orr’s Island

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 36 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 2.5 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: Long Cove, rocky shore, Gun Point Cove, Seal Rock, and lots of seals

To get to this roughly 2.5-mile trail network on a wisp of a peninsula, cross the bridge from Great Island to Orr’s Island and continue on Route 24 approximately .2 miles to the parking area on the left. It is a really lovely spot, although there are some steep sections as you walk down the embankment to the shore, and occasional rough footing.

The West Loop trail starts across the street from the parking area. The 1.2-mile East Loop starts at the end of the parking lot—and includes many great places for checking out the barking, lolling, sunning, playing seals who gather on a large rock in the middle of the Gun Point Cove. Bring your binoculars!

Directions: From Cook’s Corner in Brunswick, follow Rt 24 south for 9.4 miles. Soon after crossing onto Orr’s Island, look for a parking area on the left.
