Hobstone Woods, Cape Elizabeth

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 21 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1-mile loop
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: woods, streams

This is a pleasant preserve in a forest of spruce, fir, and hemlock, with stretches of trails following old stone walls. You can do about a one-mile loop in the woods, along paths that are well maintained and well marked, with maps at some trail intersections. The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust recommends parking in front of the trailhead, where you start your walk in a small field with a bench and picnic table.

Directions:  Follow Mitchell Road to Hobstone Road, which is marked by a big sign for the Hobstone neighborhood. It’s your first left if you’re coming in from Route 77. According to the land trust, parking is available for a few cars adjacent to the trailhead at the intersection of Hobstone Drive and Merrimac Place.
