Morgan Bay Zendo Contemplative Path, Surry

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 10 acres
  • Trail Mileage: .3 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: moss garden, sculpture, Zendo grounds

The Morgan Bay Zendo trail is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., when there is no retreat or workshop. You can park in a small lot off Route 176, a short distance from the center. The .3-mile path crosses a bridge and heads downhill through woods to the center grounds. When you reach the edge of the forest and can see the center buildings and pond, the path takes a left into the “moss garden.” Charming looped twigs outline the forest path, which takes you by a serene sculpture of the bodhisattva Kannon by Lenore Straus. Directions: From Surry, turn onto Route 172 from Route 176. Continue 2.2 miles to the parking lot on the left. Look for the Zendo sign.
