Norton Preserve, Kittery

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 170 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~2.8 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: woods, wetlands

(Norton Preserve in orange; Fuller Forest Preserve in blue; Lafcadio’s Woods in red.)

The best trails on the wooded and wetland-y Norton Preserve are, in my mind, the orange trail to the end of yellow. The winding orange trail takes you through a mature forest, with views over the marsh. The yellow trail brings you into the marsh and over to the 220-acre Fuller Forest Preserve.

Directions: The preserve is at the end of Norton Road, which is a dead-end road in a quiet neighborhood. Parking is very limited: it’s not allowed on the side of the road or at the preserve entrance, but rather in a small lot—big enough for two vehicles—located immediately after Oreilly Lane on the right. The Kittery Land Trust asks that visitors respect the preserve rules and be respectful of people living nearby.
