Penobscot Shore Preserve, Prospect

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 47 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1 mile
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: Penobscot River

The first leg of this Coastal Mountains Land Trust trail descends to a .4-mile loop at the shore of the Penobscot River, making for a slightly strenuous return (especially in deep snow). There is no obvious way to access the shore, but you can clamber down to it from a few points along the trail.

Directions: From Route 1, turn left at the lights right before the grand Penobscot Narrows Bridge. Drive 1.4 miles, turn right on Bowden Road, and go 1.1 miles. The preserve sign is small. If you reach Worcester’s Lobster Bait, you’ve gone too far — the trailhead is 100 yards back. You can park at the side of the road.
