Schoolhouse Pond Preserve, Boothbay

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 42 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.5 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: a mixed forest, rock formations, stone wall

You can do several different iterations of the nicely-made loop trails in these woods. (These loops remind me somewhat of one of those brain teasers that asks you to count all of the circles (or triangles, rectangles, etc.) embedded within circles within circles!). The actual Schoolhouse Pond is a small cranberry bog. And the preserve is named after a school that was active from 1840-1895.  The Boothbay Region Land Trust has opened up the preserve to mountain bikes, horses and snowmobiles.

Directions: From Boothbay Harbor travel north on Route 27; take a left at the monument in Boothbay Center onto Corey Lane; proceed 0.3 of a mile. Bear right at the fork onto Barters Island Road and travel 2.1 miles crossing two bridges; turn right onto the East Side Road. Travel 1.9 miles. The Schoolhouse Pond Preserve is on the left.
