Turtle Head, Islesboro

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: 1.4 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Sights: Penobscot Bay, Sears Island

This was my favorite preserve in Islesboro, and one of several protected by the Islesboro Islands Trust. The trails bring you along a narrow point of land to a high bluff with expansive views of Penobscot Bay. The rocks at this point have unique patterns.

The trail on the west side of the preserve rims some fairly steep cliffs, so watch your footing. You can veer off this trail and take an interior trail that is more gentle and abundant with ferns.

The short loop close to the parking lot brings you to a nice beach.

Directions: From Main Road, turn onto Turtle Head Road and drive all the way to the end where you’ll see the trailhead, kiosk and small parking area.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
