Walpole Woods, South Bristol

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 50 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1-mile walk
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy

The 1-mile trail of this Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust preserve brings you through quiet woods to a small, tucked-away pond. You can also walk along the grassy lane for a ways (this heads onto unposted private property).

Gordon Merriam, who donated the land, said it was his wish “that trails could be opened up to the public for walks and enjoyment of woodland, springs, mosses, wildlife, etc.”

Directions: The 50-acre preserve, owned by South Bristol, is on the east side of Route 129 just north of the Walpole post office, about 2.5 miles south of Hanley’s Market where 129 branches off from Route 130.
