This lovely trail is composed of a there-and-back 1.25-miler along Great Pond, the largest freshwater pond in Cape Elizabeth. It includes small loop trails around a pretty little pond at the north end of the preserve.
The trails are popular and well-maintained, and they include an incredibly long stretch of boardwalk and a great view from a small, rocky bluff (marked with a red icon on my map). Some people keep their canoes at the town canoe rack, near a sandy boat access and possible place to swim. The trail deposits you right near Kettle Cove Dairy, so you can get a snack at the end!
The there-and-back trail along the pond is mostly wide and easy, but there is a stone staircase (at the end of the boardwalk) and some rougher sections. Be prepared for pretty views of the pond and, if you’re lucky, waterfowl as you make your way along this trail!
Directions: The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust says there are three parking spots for walkers at Kettle Cove Dairy on Route 77 between the fire hydrant and telephone pole, and you can also leave a car along the side of Fenway Road.
