James Wood, Kennebunkport

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 15 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1.3 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: firebreak, woods

At this small preserve close to downtown, you’ll walk along a narrow path that might be a bit overgrown, cross a driveway and slip into old forest with a carpet of ferns. At one point the path edges a meadow. Despite the boardwalks, you might occasionally hit a muddy patch. The Kennebunkport Land Trust preserve also includes a firebreak dug in 1947, a year of terrible fires.

Overall, the walking is easy and flat, the trail easy to follow. From the public parking lot across the street from the trailhead, it’s about 0.3 miles to the 0.7-mile loop.

Directions: If you’re driving, park in the free lot at 30 North Street. Cross North Street at the crosswalk, turn right, and look for the trail and the sign on your left between a couple of houses.
