Mosher Hill Falls

Farmington, Franklin County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: N/A
  • Trail Mileage: ~0.1 mile to falls
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Sights: 45-foot waterfall

The magnificent waterfall here seems endless! It’s officially 45 feet, but somehow it feels taller that that. The gorge it runs through has high, sheer sides — be careful as you try to peer over the edge to the cascades.

As others have found, the best views are on the left side of the trail (south side), facing away from the road. You can attempt a stream crossing not too far downstream from the falls to continue on a half-mile or so loop, depending on where you cross. The spot is not conducive for swimming, just for admiring running water.

The trails aren’t marked, but they’re well-worn and easy to follow. There are a lot of roots and rocks, and occasional muddy sections.

If you love this spot (or love to help conserve land in Maine!), consider pitching in to protect it. High Peaks Alliance has an opportunity to buy it from the landowner and is currently fundraising to protect the falls and the 200 or so acres around it.

Directions: From Farmington, take Industry Road (Route 43) for just over three miles. Turn left on Mosher Hill Road. Go another three miles to a stream crossing, the road will have turned to dirt. There is a small parking are for two cars on the left, as well as a shoulder big enough for three cars.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
