Riverwalk, Saco

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: 1.1 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Saco River

In Saco, the Riverwalk offers a nice stroll away from the city along the river. Since I last was here, the city has made some improvements to the trail — I will come back soon to check them out!

You can start the walk in Riverfront Park, off Front Street, and walk along Front Street and around the sewage treatment plant. After a quarter mile, the path takes you through a hole in a large fence along a well-worn trail to some rock ledges and cliffs that have views over the river and back toward the city. If you continue on this unofficial path, you’ll end up at a cemetery.

Directions: From Pepperell Square in Saco, follow Front Street to the boat launch. Park here and walk toward the treatment center along the sidewalk. The path begins behind the plant.

  1. I quite often walk my dog behind the Run of the Mill. Being a responsible pet owner I can’t help but notice a lot of people do not clean up after. Their pet. I think some signage needs to go up.

    • That’s pretty annoying! Sometimes if a city can afford it, putting up a plastic bag dispenser and trashcan at the trailheads is also a good way to encourage responsible dog walking.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
