This very short trail appears to be well used by the schoolchildren. There is a nice boardwalk across the swampy area to a short forest loop, or “outdoor classroom.” The trail guide encourages visitors to look out for Vassalboro schist, a blue-gray sandstone.
I suspect you shouldn’t park here unless school is not in session. You’ll find the trailhead kiosk behind the school building, at a corner of the ball field. The trail begins on a mown path before turning into the woods. At this juncture, from grass to forest, the paths are marked with tall wooden stakes (or this was the case when we visited).
Directions: Park at the Vassalboro Community School, on Webber Pond Road. The trailhead kiosk is behind the school, at the corner of the ball field.
