Waterhouse Brook Trail, Poland

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: 1.7 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Waterhouse Brook

The town has put work into the trail, and it is well signed and pleasant, with the highlight being an easy forested walk on the Brook Trail to Beaver Knoll, which overlooks the beautiful brook. From this point, you turn around and return either along Brook Trail, or follow the very straight railroad track. I almost think it’s nicer to stay on the walking paths than to do the complete loop, but then again, a loop is always satisfying!

You can enter the trail system at several points. There is a kiosk in Waterhouse Park, off Poland Corner Road. If you walk along the road, past the fire station, you’ll see a dirt road on your right. Follow that to the school ball fields — the trail begins at the corner of the field, through a gate. You can also catch the trails behind the Community School, if you head down to the ball fields.

More info here.

Directions: From the junction of White Oak Hill Road and Route 26, head north on Route 26 for 0.3 miles until you get to the Poland Community School on the right. The town suggests you park off Poland Corner Road, across the street from the entrance of Plains Road, or at the town garage. You can check out the dam here. It’s also possible to park at the end of the little dirt road that is part of the loop, according to the town map.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
