Baker Forest, Newcastle

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 165 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.5 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: woods

This is a no thrills but pleasant walk in the woods! There are two short loops marked with faded blue blazes — the first is under a mile, the second is about .6 mile. The trail also continues a bit farther west after the second loop, but I found it hard to find the path, and the land trust describes the way as “unmarked.” The property is managed by the Damariscotta River Association.

Directions: From US Route 1 in Newcastle, head south on River Road for 1.5 miles As you head south on River Road, you will see a small cemetery and then Kiln Road on your left. The preserve is on your right soon after with a small pull-off for two to three cars.
