Bishop Cardinal and Wilson Wing Moose Pond Bog Preserves, Lovell

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 101 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 2.1 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Horseshoe Pond, Moose Pond, viewing platform

Bishop Cardinal/Wilson Wing Moose Pond Bog trails are in blue; Lord and Pine Hills’ trail system in green.

The prettiest view of this walk is right at the start, with a glance up Horseshoe Pond. There is also a view over the Moose Pond Bog. The nice thing about this Greater Lovell Land Trust preserve is it connects to the Lord Hill and Pine Hill trail systems, so you can gain some elevation (and go rock hounding at Lord Hill quarry). Be careful to follow the blue dots and not the blazes on the trails here — I momentarily went astray.

Directions: From Route 5, take West Lovell Road a little under three miles to the turn off to Foxboro Road. Veer left onto Foxboro Road. Go a little over two miles to the intersection with Horseshoe Pond Road. Take a right, and park in the parking area at the head of the pond. The trail kiosk is a little ways back along Horseshoe Pond Road (you’ll have passed it driving in).

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
