Broad Point Preserve, Islesboro

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 50 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.2 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: Broad Cove, Gilkey Harbor, cedar swamp

At this nice preserve, a short trail connects to a 1-mile loop that brings walkers through Eastern white cedar swamp to a gravel beach on Gilkey Harbor. The Islesboro Islands Trust has set up a picnic table, with a view, just behind the beach. Though there are bog bridges placed along the trail at wet spots, it can still be quite spongy and damp in areas.

Directions: The trail head is off Mill Creek Road, about .3 miles from the junction with Ferry Road.
