This nearly 100-acre preserve contains two preserves protected by Midcoast Conservancy, and has just under two miles of walking trails that intersect with snowmobile paths. There are some lovely spots along Mill Pond and Goose River, including a place on the Goose River side of the preserve where the stream creates fairly deep pools and flows over and around flattish ledges (good for sitting) and mossy rocks. Expect to see a small waterfall or two.
I’ve included an older map in the slideshow below with trail distances. The Mill Pond Trail is roughly 0.6 miles and the Goose River Loop is roughly 0.5 miles. There are a few ups and downs, especially along the Goose River.
The preserve derives its name from its donors—a group of friends who met as Peace Corps volunteers in Turkey.
Directions: Follow Route 220 South for 4.8 miles from Waldoboro Village. Make a left onto Finntown Rd. The preserve entrance is located on the right 0.9 mi from Rte. 220. A small parking area for two vehicles is available by the trailhead kiosk. If the lot is full, there’s a bit of room on the wide shoulder of Finntown Road close to the kiosk.
