My map is incomplete.
Here you can walk for miles, but the paths are more like snowmobile tracks than narrow trails. Perhaps the loveliest part is the 2-mile portion along Whitman Spring Trail, an old road blocked to most cars that follows the shoreline of Lake Auburn. Part of the road is paved, part is gravel, and so is pretty much wheelchair accessible. The side loop off the road, “Hotel Loop,” is about 0.4 miles. You and your dogs aren’t allowed to swim in the lake as it supplies public drinking water.
From this road, you can head over to the vast trail system of Lake Auburn Community Center and the Perkins Ridge Sno-Travelers. It looks like some walkers recommend doing a loop along the lake, up to the Center via Merkins Way, across North Auburn Road and along the Horse Farm Trail.
Directions: The parking area is at the Lake Auburn Community Center, 115 North Auburn Road. When you pull into the lot, you’ll see the trailhead kiosk. You can also park at the North Gate, at the intersection of North Auburn Road and Whitman Spring Road, and at the South Gate, on Whitman Spring Road.
