Library Park’s trails begin at the local library, and loop down toward McFarland’s Cove. Parts of the trail system can be steep. The effort, though, is worth it, for the moment when you step out onto an overlook with views over the cove and a small island. If you take the Inner Loop Trail, marked in orange on the official map, you’ll reach a high point with views of the sea through trees.

It’s about 0.3 miles from trailhead to sea, if you choose the most direct path.

The Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust offers good information on this walk, as they do on all their preserves they manage. The trail system here also connects to Tracy Shore. Library Park has about 0.8 miles of trails, and Tracy Shore has about 1.5 miles.

Directions: Library Park is located just off of Route 129 in South Bristol, 12 or so miles south of Damariscotta. Park at Rutherford Library – there are trail signs near the parking lot.
