Old Boston Preserve, Ogunquit

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 156 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.3 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: stone walls, ruins of old farmstead

The 156 acres at this Great Works Regional Land Trust preserve offer a satisfying figure-eight double loop walk (the best trail shape!) and beautiful, healthy-seeming mature woods. There are crumbling stone walls, as well as the impressive foundations of the Boston family farmstead, accessible via a little leg off the main loop. The preserve also includes the family cemetery.

The land had been owned by the same family–the Bostons and their descendants–for more than two hundred years, according to reporting by Seacoast Online. The family stewarded the land well for those two centuries, and today it’s a joy to walk through the forest. The terrain is mostly flat, with some moderate ups and downs.

The preserve also abuts the Hilton-Winn Preserve and contributes to 6,000 acres of uninterrupted protected land. Awesome, a wonderful accomplishment!

Directions: The parking area is off N Village Rd in Ogunquit, about 0.4 miles north of the intersection with Ogunquit Road and about 1.4 miles south of the intersection with Tatnic Road.
