River Point Conservation Area, Falmouth

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 41 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~2 miles in network
  • Pets: no
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: two small ponds, Presumpscot River, east and west branches of the Piscataqua River

This preserve has an idyllic 1-mile loop trail on a 41-acre preserve that takes you to the shores of three rivers, the Presumpscot River and both east and west branches of the Piscataqua Rivers. The Falmouth Land Trust has put up signs explaining the history of this spot. Once a Native American camp, it became a farm, and then, seemingly, almost a shopping mall! (It abuts a shopping center.) You can hike from here to the McCrann Preserve for a longer trek. The open fields are dotted with bird houses.

Directions: Park at the Hannafords at the Falmouth Crossing Shopping Center on Routes 26/100, just opposite Maine Turnpike/I-95 Exit 53. If you face Hannaford’s, you’ll see a wooden overpass that takes you to the kiosk and trailhead.
