Webber-Rogers Farmstead Conservation Area, Litchfield

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 117 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 1.5-mile loop
  • Pets: no
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Upper Pleasant Pond, woods, Cobbosseecontee Stream

Here you’ll find a 117-acre conservation parcel protected by the Kennebec Land Trust, which includes a long stretch of footage on the very pretty Upper Pleasant Pond. There are a couple of places you can get close to the shore, including one with a bench for staying awhile. The path also wanders by a small pond (actually a wide part of Cobbosseecontee Stream), filled with singing frogs on a recent spring day. The path begins and ends on a field alongside the road.

Also, there is a snowmobile path that cuts through the mid-section of the property, so you can make a shorter loop of roughly 0.8 miles. If you’re taking the shore trail, you’ll see it on your right at the first clearing you come to on Upper Pleasant Pond. It’s not blazed but is easy to follow.

No dogs allowed because of the ecologically sensitive habitat.

Directions: From Gardiner, take Rte. 201 south. Just over 3 miles south of the Rte. 295 interchange, turn right on Thorofare Road. Turn left on Plains Road. The trailhead is on the left just after the stream. You can park on wide shoulders on either side of the road.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
