There is a truly epic mountain bike trail at the start of this Arundel Conservation Trust trail. It looks really fun for kids, and we saw quite a few zipping around when we visited.
Walkers, meanwhile, can make a pleasant ~1.6-mile loop through young forest with lots of watery areas where beautiful things might be growing (like marsh marigold). Boardwalks help keep your feet dry! If you head off on the short overlook trail, you’ll walk through a shady hemlock forest to reach a bench overlooking the narrow Kennebunk River. The property border here is clear; nonetheless, there is a narrow trail that continues past it down the river.
The first 100 yards or so of this trail system is wheelchair accessible, and passes a playground. This portion of the trail ends at a little stream. If you cross the stream, continuing on the Yellow Trail, keep your eyes peeled for fairy homes — some are reached via little side trails.
You can extend your walk along the Eastern Trail; the intersection with the long-distance trail is roughly 1 mile from the parking area.
Overall, the trails here are easy, but include some uneven terrain and boardwalks.
Directions: Parking is at the Arundel Town Hall, 257 Limerick Road.

On the main Arundel trail, they have secreted fairy houses along the trail to excite and intrigue children. It’s a wonderful whimsical way to walk in the woods with children and get them involved in being outdoors.
That sounds fabulous for kids (and adults). I have spent many hours with children outside building fairy houses and villages — and in some cases, veritable fairy urban sprawl!
An additional trail has now made it a 1.6 loop trail. Nice trail. Looks like it will be good for birdwatching.
