Five Kezar Ponds Reserve

Stoneham, Oxford County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 316 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~3 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Sights: views, open ledge (~1,120 ft.)

This is a marvelous mountain hike — with a well-marked trail, a moderate ascent, and gorgeous views from open ledge at the 1,120-foot summit ridge. The Greater Lovell Land Trust protects this land

The moderately steep hike is about 1 mile to the best view from the eastern trailhead via the Mountain Trail — following a blue-blazed path — and 1.5 miles from the western trailhead, following an orange-blazed trail. (Ron’s Loop, at the end of the orange-blazed trail, is 1 mile.) I think it’s an easier ascent if you hike up the Orange Trail and down the steeper Mountain Trail. The elevation gain is roughly 570 feet, according to AllTrails.

Directions: There are two parking areas and kiosks about 0.3 miles apart on 5 Kezar Ponds Road. (From the land Trust): From Lovell, turn off Route 5 onto Old Waterford Road, which will turn to dirt and become Five Kezars Road. After 7 miles, turn left on Kezars Ridge Drive. At 0.6 miles keep right onto 5 Kezar Ponds Road. In about 1,000 feet, turn right into the parking area for the Mountain Trail trailhead. Keep going 0.3 miles to the second parking area if you want to hike up via the Orange Trail.
