Boothbay School trails

Boothbay, Lincoln County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: ~1 mile
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Ledges, cliffs, playing fields

Student athletes, especially the runners, train on these wide, looping trails and rolling hills, and the cross-country teams holds their meets here. The trails also seem as if they’d be fun to ski. All together, there’s about 1 mile of paths behind the school playing fields, an area that includes a a little forested wetland (nicknamed “Shrek’s Swamp”) and several large bedrock outcroppings that provide some drama to the landscape.

To extend your walk, cross the athletic field at the south end of the school to reach Emery Street. Turn right and you’ll catch the trails to Penny Lake Preserve in about 300 feet.

Directions: Like most school trails, it’s best to visit when school’s not in session. You can park in any of the school lots, but I recommend the most northern one, where the buses park. Find this one by staying right after turning into the school driveway from Route 27.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
